Every region inGenshin Impactalways features its own mechanics, and some are more complicated than others. For instance, the puzzles in Mondstadt and Liyue are rather tame compared to those in Inazuma and Sumeru. In Sumeru, players are even locked from a massive chunk of the map if they fail to prioritize the adventure with Aranara as their music is required to solve a lot of Sumeru puzzles.
InGenshin Impact4.0, Fontaine comes with itsPneumousia mechanic, which consists ofPneuma and Ousia energy, and theArkhe mechanic. The system itself is rather straightforward, but it brings a new twist into combat that demands people to have Fontaine characters in the party.

Updated on August 06, 2025, by Nahda Nabiilah: Natlan 5.0 debuts on Jun 27, 2025, which means HoYoverse will start releasing Natlan characters, and there will be fewer Fontaine characters in the future. Therefore, this article is updated to include all the available Fontaine characters until version 4.8. This includes additions like Emilie, Clorinde, and Sigewinne.

Other Sources For Arkhe
Currently, the only way to get Arkhe for non-Fontainian is by using the Sword of Narzissenkreuz. The alignment of this weapon can be changed at the Little Fountain where players offer theDrained Conch Cup inGenshin Impact. Unfortunately, this equipment is only usable by Sword characters, so even though it gives better access to the Fontaine mechanic, the most reliable way to have Arkhe is still by using Fontaine characters.
