True to expectations, it showed the images of a Victorian steampunk nation with a vast complex of sewers, and a grand, imposing courthouse. Whereas the mercantile Liyue was the nation of Contracts, Fontaine is the nation of Justice, and many players are excited to see how HoYoverse will explore these themes over the next year.

Posted by No-Lifeguard4399 on theGenshin ImpactLeaks subreddit, players can now see the in-game map of Fontaine, the part that’s not underwater, at least. While many fans have remarked that it feels smaller compared to previous Regions at launch, a lot of the exploration in Fontaine is slated to occur beneath the waves. Whereas Inazuma brought naval exploration through boats, allowing the Traveler to dart across the archipelago with ease, Fontaine will take it a step further by introducing diving to the game.

Genshin Impactwill feature large underwater zonesin Fontaine, filled to the brim with treasures and Hydroculi for players to collect. Though it remains to be seen how character kits will work in a three-dimensional space, underwater diving will not have any character restrictions. In order to retroactively make vertical exploration better acrossGenshin Impact, HoYoverse will also improve the way underground zones are depicted on the world map.

Ultimately, the Region of Fontaine likely has a bit more water than most players initially expected, with the vast majority of its landmass surrounded by Teyvat’s inland sea. The Fontaine map connects to the newdesert area introduced inGenshin Impact’s Version 3.6, and will likely expand towards Liyue’s borders through future patch content. In addition to Fontaine, the next chapter of Teyvat will also expand on Mondstadt with a new zone, though it is currently unknown when it will release.

Genshin Impactis available for PC, Mobile, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is in development.
