In a strange discovery, a gamer shares a photograph of aPlayStation-branded bottle of wine that they found while visiting their in-laws.PlayStationhas released all manner of merchandise, not to mention strange promotional items, over the years. Even yet, a PlayStation-branded wine is not something most fans would have ever expected to have seen. That’s exactly what this gamer found, however, and this PlayStation drink may be worth more than it seems.

The truth is that PlayStation has actually commissioned multiple different wines over the years. There’s a wine that was made for 20 million consoles in North America, another wine celebrating 55 million units manufactured as of 1999, a wine for the grand opening of PlayStation’s Metreon entertainment center (it closed in 2009), and likely others yet. APlayStation wineisn’t altogether strange, but it is undeniably rare as they’re all only released in limited quantity.

A post on Reddit has a different bottle of PlayStation wine that’s brought out fans of both wine and PlayStation questioning what the bottle is for. The title of the Reddit post is “Found this at in-laws” and an attached photo shows a bottle of wine featuring the PlayStation name. Below the name, the triangle, circle, cross, and squarePlayStation button symbolsare shown with the years 1997 and 2007. There’s no indication what the bottle of wine is for, though.

The top comment in the thread offers what could be the explanation for the PlayStation bottle of wine, but it hasn’t been confirmed. They say this bottle of wine was offered in celebration of “30 million sold,” assumedly referencingPlayStation hardware units. They also say that the bottle of wine currently sells for between $2,000 and $4,000 on the aftermarket. If the Reddit poster is current, there’s a relatively high demand for fancy bottles of wine that PlayStation has offered in the past.

Other commenters in the thread mention that the wine itself probably isn’t very good, or worse yet that it’s likely gone bad since the quality of wine isn’t mean to have lasted for over a decade. The value isn’t in the taste or quality of the wine, but only due to it being rare and having thePlayStation logoon it.

Searches for more information regarding the wine on Reddit haven’t resulted in any further information. It could be entirely faked, or related to some other PlayStation accomplishment. Whatever the story is behind the PlayStation wine’s creation, it’s at least interesting and potentially a rare part ofPlayStation’s history.
