It’s about family, but it’s also about ten second cars, international heists and turning Vin Diesel into a superstar. TheFast and Furiousfranchise has grown from what was essentially a remake ofPoint Breakwith a focus on street racing to one of the most popular movie franchises of all time.

With that expansion, the series has grown to include different types of racing, stopping international criminals and a wealth of characters. But some of those characters have made the most of their screen time while only showing up in one film.

10Carter Verone - 2 Fast 2 Furious

In one of the lower stakes entries in the series,2 Fast 2 Furious,Cole Hauserplays local drug lord Carter Verone. He is the main antagonist U.S. Customs Agents, with the help of Brian and Roman, are trying to take down.

What’s unusual about him not returning is the film perfectly set up the possibility. Brian admits the justice system isn’t equipped to hold him for long. Plus, Verone smiles at Roman and lets him know “he’ll be back.” But, alas he hasn’t returned yet.

9Elle -F9

Elle joined the series inF9as a protégé to Han. Played byAnna Sawai, she is the key to activating Project Aries, literally. Her parents locked the access to the project in their DNA. Han then saved and trained her into a formidable fighter.

She may be a newer addition, but she won over many fans with her demeanor and joined up with Dom’s crew. She is likely to return in future installments and possible spinoffs.

8Little Nobody - The Fate of the Furious

The Fate of the Furiousis viewed as one of the lesser entries in the series, but it did provide some strong comedic relief in Little Nobody.Scott Eastwoodplays the law enforcement agent who is also the son of Mr. Nobody. He works with the family following Dom’s betrayal and alliance with Cipher.

He is the latest character introduced for Roman to lock horns with, and many fans believe their banter was some of the best in the series. It was surprising he didn’t return forF9. But it appears he will return forFast X, so he likely won’t be on this list much longer.

7Leysa - F9

F9features a large supply abig name guest starsjoining theFast and Furiousfamily.Cardi Bplays Leysa, an old friend of Dom’s and the leader of an all-female paramilitary unit. She jumps in and saves Dom from Hatfield House.

She is another one who won’t be on this list for long. Like Little Nobody, Leysa is slated to return to the franchise inFast X. Plus, her backstory would be perfect for a prequel film about Dom. And, the all-female paramilitary group would be perfect for a potential spinoff.

6Leon - The Fast and the Furious

While Dom, Brian, Mia and Letti were the obvious choices from the original film to return to the series, the only other character fromThe Fast and the Furiousto return is Vince. Quite frankly, he was the least interesting of Dom’s crew. Leon, played byJohnny Strong, was arguablythe best driver of the crewand could benefit them the most if he returned.

RELATED:Most Iconic Tomboys In Action MoviesLeon is also basically the catalyst for the entire series. He’s first introduced blocking off the road for the tractor trailer theft and stopping a delivery driver from using it. He set the events of the first film in motion which in turn launched the series. Many fans would love to see him return as a callback to the series roots.

5Neela - The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift

Neela is the emotional crux ofThe Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift.Played byNathalie Kelly, she is the girlfriend of Takashi when Sean arrives and takes an interest in her. Throughout the film, she tries to fight her attraction to Sean before giving in and being with him leading to the climactic drift race.

WhileTokyo Driftwas thought to be an outlier in the series, many of the main characters returned for some scenes inF9. Unfortunately, Neela wasn’t one of them. She and Sean were together at the end ofTokyo Drift, but he doesn’t mention her inF9.It’s enough to make viewers ask what happened to her?

4Takashi - The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift

In contrast to Neela, Takashi, played byBrian Tee, was the antagonist of the third film in the series. He is the “Drift King” of Tokyo, connected to the Yakuza and Neela’s boyfriend at the beginning of the film. In the end, he loses the “Drift King” title and Neela to Sean.

Takashi was the tamest villain of the entire series. While he has connections to organized crime, he isn’t blowing up cars or trafficking drugs. He mostly just an obnoxious racer. But the character stood out and could be a good choice for a redemption arc if he were to return.

3Jesse - The Fast and the Furious

While death means little to nothing in theFast and Furiousfranchise, one character that hasn’t returned from the grave yet is Jesse. Introduced inThe Fast and the Furious, he serves as the mad scientist of Dom’s family. Jesse, played byChad Lindberg, knows a lot about engines and how to hook up Nos systems.

Unfortunately, he puts his pink slip on the line against Johnny Tran and loses. He takes off with the Volkswagen Jetta that’s no longer his before showing back up at Dom’s front door. It’s there Tran guns him down. Jesse’s death is one of the most emotional, because it was unclear how much the story would grow from that point.

2Suki - 2 Fast 2 Furious

Suki may only have appeared in2 Fast 2 Furious, but she stole the show with arguablythe best car of the series. Played byDevon Aoki, she worked with Brian, Roman and Tej as they helped customs agents track down Carter Verone. She was free-spirited and lively. Plus, she’s in the discussion with Leon for best driver of the series.

It’s a bit surprising she didn’t return inFurious 7when Ramsey was introduced. The character is lovable and while she may not be the hacker that Ramsey was introduced as, neither Tej nor Dom started out as the seemingly unstoppable characters they have become.

1Johnny Tran - The Fast and the Furious

The first villain of the series hasn’t returned, and for many fans, appears to be the most disconnected from the franchise as a whole.Rick Yuneplays Johnny Tran inThe Fast and the Furious. He’s the leader of a rival gang who blows up Brian’s car, beats Jesse for his father’s car, and then is part of the crew that shoots and kills Jesse.

Throughout the events ofthe first film, he’s presented as the villain, even though Dom is doing things on par with him in terms of their villainy. Brian shoots him at the end of the film, and it is heavily implied that he dies from the shot. Still, he wouldn’t be the first character people thought was dead that returned. Maybe there is a redemption arc for him.
