Rocket Leaguehas received a bunch of updates since the soccer game featuring rocket-powered cars launched, including new maps, game modes, and loads of cosmetics. Now, it seems that Epic Games may be planning one ofRocket League’s biggest updates yet.

Epic Games boughtRocket Leaguedeveloper Psyonix in 2019 and has brought changes big and small. One of the largest wasRocket Leaguegoing free-to-play, as well as the recent announcement of thenewRocket League Sideswipemobile spin-off. Now, a new leak has revealed some of the planned additions that are inRocket League’s future.

The leaked document arrives amidstEpic Games' ongoing lawsuit with Apple, and the biggest reveal from the leaked document is some details on what is labeledRocket League “Next.“The document details that it will be a next-generation client, although it is not clear if that means an entirely new release for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S or not. The document also reveals that it will not only bringRocket Leagueto mobile but that it will introduce cross-progression as well.Rocket Leaguealready has cross-play between all of its current platforms, but the addition of cross-progression will be a big addition for players who like playing on multiple systems.

However, the leaked document says that an alpha/beta for theRocket League “Next"will launch on mobile long before it arrives on the other platforms and that the developers are aiming for a mobile beta that will launch in the second quarter of this year. The leaked document also states that there are twoRocket Leaguegames “on the horizon for mobile.” The document is pretty limited and, expectedly, does not give any details on what these two new games are, or whether or not the count includes the upcomingRocket League Sideswipe. The document also hints at future cross-overs, which is not too surprising asRocket Leaguehas boasted quite a few high-name crossoverssince its launch.

The addition of cross-progression and a mobileRocket Leagueport makes a lot of sense. With the success of other free-to-play games likeFortniteandCall of Duty Mobileon the platform, there is likely a large audience thatRocket Leaguecould reach on mobile. However, how well the game’s intricate maneuvers will transfer to a touch-screen remains to be seen. It also will be interesting to see just whatRocket League “Next"ends up being, as it is unclear just how big of a change it will bring to the title.

Rocket Leagueis available now on PC, PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One.
