Elon Muskis extremely online and very willing to be a part of conversations related to technology of all sorts. That includes topics related to video games, as he’s previously discussed his favorite games, hisElden Ringbuild, and other topics on social media. A recent gaming-related focus of Musk’s is bringingSteamto Tesla vehicles so that they can be played on the dashboard. That idea has since led to Musk being asked whether he’d be interested in creating his own video game console.
Musk was participating in a recent episode of the Full Send Podcast when he was asked whether he’d be interested in creating a video game console. Musk is clearly a fan of video games, has an incredible amount of wealth, and has strong enough opinions to know how to differentiate his own console next to aPlayStation or Xbox. However, Musk says he is not interested in doing such a thing. He responds rather explicitly to the question with a direct, “no.”

Elaborating, Musk says that he’s “not sure” if there’s any value to be created by adding another video game console to the current marketplace. Further, he explains that video game consoles are “basically PCs,” perhaps implying that he sees consoles as increasingly indistinct next to PC gaming. This is unsurprising, as Musk has previously talked about not playing games on console. The one console franchise he says that he plays isHalo.
It’s easy to see what Musk’s gaming tendencies are based on his current Tesla gaming goals. It would absolutely make headlines if Musk announced he was working toward a partnership with either Sony or Microsoft to have PS5 or Xbox Series X consoles built intoTesla vehicles. Instead, Musk’s priority is working to have Steam run on Tesla dashboards.
If Musk did decide to create his own video game console, he’d certainly start with an audience. Musk has an almost cult following of fans online who share his thoughts and opinions across social media. The crossover between this audience and the video game community seems significant, too, due to the popularity ofMusk’s gaming-related tweets.
That’s not to say that Musk is wrong when he says there may not be much value to be had in adding another console to the current gaming market. Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo find success due in large part to foundations built across multiple console generations. There hasn’t been a major party joining the market since Xbox in 2001.Muskwill seemingly be content to continue playing PC games, working tobring Steam to Teslavehicles, and sharing his thoughts online.
