From the mountains of Markarth to the swamps of Riften, there are a ton of places to explore inThe Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim. However, despite its size, Skyrim is only one part of the massive world of Tamriel, and its map does not include locations featured in other Elder Scrolls games such as Morrowind and Cyrodiil. Another location far from Skyrim’s shores is Valenwood, the homeland of the Bosmer race. A new mod forThe Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrimallows players to explore this area of the world and join a fight against oppressive Thalmor rule.
The new mod is called Assault on Valenwood and comes with its own detailed map and some instructions for players looking to get the most out of their time in the Bosmer homeland. Assault on Valenwood is just one of the seemingly endless amount of mods forSkyrim, a game that still has an active modding community despite its release ten years ago. The mod is specificallycompatible withSkyrim: Special Editionversion 1.5.73 and beyond and will also require players to have allSkyrimDLCs includingDawnguard,Dragonborn, andHearthfire.

Assault on Valenwood is set during a time when there is no longer a treaty between The Empire and the Aldmeri Dominion. The Aldmeri Dominion is an alliance created by High Elf supremacist group the Thalmor, andtheir beliefs don’t make much sense. Their rule over Valenwood has caused unrest among the native people, and players exploring Valenwood may find help from certain Bosmer and Khajiit as well as the attacking Imperial forces.
The mod is 2.6 GB in size and is created by modder theblackfist, but theblackfist also makes use of another mod called Valenwood that was created by modder Coleman. Coleman’s original mod is a complete creation of Valenwood forSkyrim, an area only explorable before this inThe Elder Scrolls Online. Coleman has also created a location mod for Argonia, which can be downloaded using the same file set as the Valenwood mod.
For players ready to take part in Assault on Valenwood, there are some things to know. Theblackfist suggests stocking up on potions and recruiting some followers before journeying into Valenwood, as there are a lot of Thalmor ready for the player.
To begin the main quest in Assault on Valenwood, players must travel toSkyrim’s city of Solitudeand find the dock area. Once players board a ship called The Avenger, they must search for a trap door and open it. Both the Assault on Valenwood and Valenwood mods are downloadable on Nexus mods.
