At launch,Elden Ringreceived raving reviews from a multitude of outlets and content creators. It quickly found itself at the very top of Metacritic’s best games list, and this excited many for launch. Come launch, manyElden Ringplayers did find issues with performance, accessibility, and the like. That hasn’t stopped many from enjoying it, but it has created a lot of discourse and controversy.

For example, there have been multiple posts online taking shots at Ubisoft overElden Ring’s world design, as many praise the latter for its lack of a “checklist” like approach. Others, meanwhile, side with the quest design, UI, and UX of Elden Ring indicating a lack of “good” game design. Now, while there are many on each side of the debate, one thing that has captured a lot of attention is howElden Ringcannot be paused.

The thing is, oneElden Ringplayer by the name of Iron Pineapple has discovered that there is indeed a way to pause without the need for any sort of mod. This doesn’t require any tinkering with the game; it’s available on any platform. Indeed, as Iron Pineapple points out, what players have to do to pause is open the inventory, click help, and then bring up the “Menu explanation” option.

Iron Pineapple shows this works by kiting a bunch ofElden Ringknightsand then bringing this up to pause the game. It’s certainly not as simple as just pausing when opening the menu, and in high-pressure moments, it would require some finesse to pause. However, at the same time, for someone looking to leave the game for just a few moments and they’re in a safe area, this method should ensure they remain safe.

Whatever one thinks ofElden Ring, its popularity is undeniable. Some may think of this as a flaw, while others may never even use the option—after all, there are some players who havebeaten and fully completedElden Ringalready. Regardless, it stands to reason that Elden Ring’s role in discourse is going nowhere anytime soon.

On top ofElden Ring’s incredibly long playtime, there are rumors of the game receiving DLC. This hasn’t been confirmed, and for now, the most credible evidence is the inclusion of an inaccessible coliseum in the game files. It stands to reason thatElden Ringwill add DLC, given pastSoulsgames have included it, but what form it takes remains to be seen. If there’s anything for sure, though,Elden Ringmay be a talking point for a good long while.

Elden Ringis available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
