OneElden Ringinvader is able to get the jump on their prey when the hosts really should’ve known better. When it comes toElden Ring, players usually have to take on PvP much differently than the game’s PvE. When going up against normal NPC enemies, they are usually following their AI and programming. While aberrations are sure to happen, mostly glitches or cases where enemies like theUlcerated Tree Spirit can grab players through walls,Elden Ring’s foes can be quite predictable. This is not so much the case when getting into the game’s PVP, as that is where real people are playing, who often think outside the box. In many cases, it can be hard to get the jump on the hosts, but that doesn’t seem to be the case here.

One ofElden Ring’s most useful tools in PvP is the Mimic Veil, an item that allows players to change into objects specifically in the surrounding environment, usually at the cost of some focus points. While for the most part players use it to goof around or have fun, there are genuine tactical applications for it, with many occasions whereElden Ringplayers were able to get the jump on otherswith the use of it.

Despite this, the host in this story should’ve known when they came across what was obviously someone usingElden Ring’s Mimic Veil. Posting to r/Eldenring, user derpageddon uploaded a clip of them invading another host’s world. In the clip, they get on an elevator and use the mimic veil to turn into a hanging brazier before pressing the elevator button and getting into position. When the elevator comes up to the hosts, they simply get on, paying no attention to the random object on the elevator.

As the elevator goes down, one of the players gets off, and the other doesn’t follow, giving the invader ample opportunity to attack them and kill them, which they take quite soon after. With the host killed, the invader wins, and remarks in the title that they thought they would notice them. Indeed, in many, more clever, circumstances of a Mimic Veil ambush, like one where aninvader took on the guise of a coffin in the Lake of Rot, it’s no surprise that players don’t see anything afoot. Yet in this case, it’s quite strange to see players not think twice about this.

That’s why the unpredictability of PvP comes twofold. On the one hand, a player can come across invaders that use clever tricks to take down their enemies, like whenoneElden Ringinvader made themselves into a living furnace. Yet, there are also those players that aren’t too careful about how they approachElden Ring, something many PvP invaders love to take advantage of.
