Elden Ringoffers a robust and expansive world for players to explore. Thankfully, it also makes traversing this vast landscape easier through various game mechanics, including the usualfast travel via Sites of Graceand the use ofyour trusty steed, Torrent. However, there is one more way for players to move around the map, though it may not always go as planned.

Elden Ringfeatures a teleportation mechanic that you may utilize via Waygates, alsoknown as Gateways or Sending Gatewaysin the game. Additionally, there are Trap Transporters that function similarly to Waygates. Everything you need to know about these mechanics is detailed in the guide below.

What Are Waygates in Elden Ring

Waygates are one-way teleportation devices that transport the Tarnished to a fixed location. The destination cannot be changed, and you will not know what the set destination is beforehand. When you interact with a Waygate, you will receive a prompt asking if you want to activate the gateway. Accepting will transport you to another location.

There are numerous Waygates situatedthroughout The Lands Between, and their destinations vary greatly from one another. You can also revisit a previously used Gateway and teleport again to the same location if you wish to.

What Are Teleporter Chests in Elden Ring

Teleporter Chests work similarly to Waygates; however, the main difference is that players won’t be given the option to decide whether to teleport. They will be transported without their consent to an unknown location.

Also known as Transporter Traps, these chests can be mistaken for regular chests, as they don’t have any distinguishing properties. When a Teleporter Chest is opened, a bit of smoke will come out, and the player will be notified that they have become ensnared in a transporter trap. After this notification, the player cannot control the outcome and will always be transported to a different location.

How Teleportation Differs from Site of Grace

To fast travel via a Site of Grace, you must first discover it during your exploration. You can only fast travel to previously discovered Sites of Grace, meaning this mechanic can’t be used to visit new areas.

In contrast, Waygates and Teleporter Chests operate differently. These structures oftentransport players to new, unexplored areas, many of which are only accessible through teleportation. Therefore, if you want to experience everything the game has to offer, you must take advantage of these teleportation methods.
