Despite player demand to see more of what Bungie has in store for Season 17, the studio has been very coy in spoiling anything about what the next season is bringing toDestiny 2. Bungie has been drip-feeding very general information asSeason of the Risencomes to a close and even then the studio has only gone into detail about some activity reworks and a few pieces of new gear coming in Season 17, like the new pursuit weapon and Trials of Osiris gear. It appears the silent treatment will continue up until the very last possible moment as the reveal trailer for Season 17 won’t air until an hour before the season begins.

Destiny 2is currently in its fifth year live, with the current year of content kicking off in February 2022 with its fourth major expansion,The Witch Queen. The expansion pits guardians against Savathun, the Hive god of cunning, who somehow came into possession of the Light in the wake of the events from Season of the Lost. Guardians are tasked with venturing into Savathun’s Throne World to learn how she gained the Light and what must be done to take it back, but standing against them are the Light-powered Hive guardians of Savathun’s Lucent Brood.

The premiere countdown for Season 17’s reveal trailer was posted onDestiny 2’s official YouTube page, with the trailer set to debut on May 24 at 11 AM EST/8 AM PST. The trailer’s premiere puts it an hour before the game goes offline for a short maintenance period in preparation for the new season, which players will be able to jump into at 1 PM EST/10 AM PST after the maintenance concludes. However, other than the promotion image of thenew Trials of Osiris gear, there are no other clues as to what will be shown in the trailer.

On the one hand,Bungie’s secrecy about the upcoming season can be, understandably, frustrating to some parts of theDestiny 2community. It can be argued that the studio keeping its cards so close to the chest makes it more difficult for players to prepare in a way they feel is adequate to what Season 17 will entail, especially with either Arc 3.0 or Solar 3.0 on the way.

It can also be argued that Bungie’s secrecy may be a good sign for what is coming in Season 17 and the studio wants to save some of those surprises. There has already been plenty of speculation about where the seasonal narrative will take players, with many popular theories pointing to delving deeper into Lord Saladin’s new role as Bracus Forge within Caiatl’s Cabal Empire or the rebirth of theWarmind Rasputinas an Exo. On top of that, several members of the development team have taken to Twitter hyping up the season, saying it may be the best season the studio has made forDestiny 2yet. Whether or not this is the case, though, remains to be seen.

Destiny 2is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
