Destiny 2players have found ways to generate game-breaking momentum through various methods for a long time now, and resolving any of these exploits may be a difficult task for Bungie. From Stasis crystals, class abilities, and movement abilities, to Sparrow animations and momentum from sword perks, there are enough movement-based exploits available that any character class can employ, using any combination of the listed methods. Lately,Destiny 2’s current Season of the Seraph’s secrets hiding behind laser traps did not stop guardians who use the Sword methods of mobility exploits.
Destiny 2’s sword skatingrelies on using the Eager’s Edge perk for legendary swords, or any teleporting perk on the Exotic swords. With Exotic swords available in the Monument to Lost Lights and legendary swords available through crafting, these general mobility exploits are available to every player regardless of owning any paid content. These mobility exploits are harmful to the game because recently the sword methods are enabling players to access secrets in Season 19’s content earlier than expected, with untold consequences for future content. Plenty of other existing content is also suffering from the use of mobility exploits as well.

Exploiting the Movement System in Destiny 2
In a weekly community update and corresponding hotfix from last February, Bungie modified Eager’s Edge’s exploitative capabilities, although that’s just the tip of the iceberg. The maximum velocity generated by the Eager’s Edge was limited to a capacity, but players quickly learned to bypass this speed limit through different combinations of inputs and animation cancels. With Eager’s Edge remaining a guaranteed perk roll through weapon crafting, and the3.0 changes toDestiny 2’s subclasses, players have plenty of methods and sources at their disposal that enables mobility exploits.
These exploits can be used to generate a game-breaking amount of momentum, helping Guardians find and explore out-of-bounds freely on an increasing amount of maps across different activities. This among other mobility features even allows players to obtain loot from a couple of differentRaid chests inDestiny 2without teammates or combat required. Platforming puzzles have a diminishing difficulty curve since these exploits have been increasingly normalized among the community.
The content in Season of the Seraph has two types of barriers: locked doors and laser traps, and players areskipping the laser traps in Seraph’s Shield, the Exotic mission, using sword exploits instead of the intended method. In week 4 of the Season, players were given the opportunity to unlock 1 perk from the locked tier of the seasonal activity vendor and an additional perk in the following week. The perks grant clearance access to locked areas, damage resistance to survive laser traps, or the option to generate an ability-cooldown enhancement. Players who opted for the clearance access perk could simply skip any laser traps using sword exploits, and get through to secret areas without waiting another week to get the second perk for the lasers.
Going forward, mobility exploits should be addressed for platforming puzzles and secret locations to keep their merits as challenges. With swords being only the latest in a series of methods that exploit the game’s fluid mobility, these are among many changes overdue forDestiny 2. With the highly mobilenewDestiny 2Strand subclassarriving in the upcoming Lightfall expansion, hopes for balanced mobility and challenging platforming puzzles could be in vain. Overall, there are far too many methods for exploiting mobility, and some could have been disabled in the meantime of ongoing adjustments, as is Bungie’s standard for correcting unintentionally powerful weaponry.
Destiny 2is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X.
