The libel case brought by Johnny Depp against Amber Heard has pulled many notable celebrities into the fold, including some of the ex-couple’s former colleagues. While most of the focus has been on Heard’sAquamanco-stars, Depp’s co-stars have also received a fair share of attention, including Dakota Johnson, whose past comments about him have recently resurfaced on social media.
Johnson has previously revealed what it was really like to work with Depp.Unlike Jason Momoa and Patrick Wilson, who have seemingly refrained from commenting on theirAquamanco-star Heard entirely, Johnson had no issue talking about her co-star Depp, who she worked with on the Netflix crime dramaBlack Mass.

In fact, while speaking to Vanity Fair’s Krista Smith in 2015, she admitted that acting alongside him was “the most gratifying” thing that she’s ever done, and that the experience was “inspiring” for her. At one point, Johnson was even left speechless and trying to find the right words to describe thePirates of the Caribbeanstar. With some help from Smith, she settled on calling Depp a “unicorn” who brought light onto the dark and dreary set every day.
In the same interview, Scott Cooper, the director ofBlack Mass, also spoke highly of Depp, saying that he chose him for the role of Whitney Bulger because he could trust in his ability to give an “emotionally truthful and psychologically truthful” performance. He described the veteran actor as a soulful, thoughtful, and gentle-natured person whose inner transformation for the film was truly mesmerizing to witness. Johnson and Cooper are two of many high-profile figures who have made positive comments about Depp, contradicting Heard’s allegations.
Recently, a video of Johnson noticing Depp’s injured finger has gone viral on Tik Tok, and many people believe it may have captured the very moment when Johnson realized something troubling was going on in Depp’s personal life.During the defamation trial, Depp testified that Heard severed the tip of his finger with a vodka bottle during an argument just a few months after their wedding in 2015, which was the same year when the video was taken.
At the time, Johnson and Depp were promotingBlack Massat the Venice Film Festival. The video shows Johnson looking down at Depp’s finger, making a comment to him, and then sitting back in her chair and laughing after Depp seemingly gives an explanation about the injury. Johnson’s body language in the video has since been interpreted as skepticism from theFifty Shades of Greyactress, with some people assuming she did not fully believe Depp’s explanation. Despite calls for comment, Johnson has not addressed these claims.
