The last few months haven’t been the greatest for CD Projekt Red to say the least. The long awaited launch ofCyberpunk 2077ended up being a disaster, especially on consoles, resulting in the game being removed from the PlayStation store entirely and several refunds being issued. As a result, stock prices dropped dramatically, and recently it was revealed thathackers stole valuable company information, including the source code toThe Witcher 3,Gwent, andCyberpunk 2077. As if to add insult to injury, it appears thatCyberpunk 2077isn’t selling very well on console anymore either, as a new study from NPD finds.
Cyberpunk 2077was subject to several delays during its development, but when it finally released, the console versions were extremely buggy. Particularly on PS4, many players found the game to be practically unplayable, as it was riddled with glitches that could halt progression and crashes at inopportune times. Now it seems the console sales are reflecting this troubled launch.

The study from NPD lists the best selling games in January of 2021 across all platforms, though there are a few caveats to be considered. For starters, NPD doesn’t have any data about digital sales forCyberpunk 2077,most Nintendo games, and a few others on this list, so it might be slightly misleading in that regard. Even so, in the case of CD Projekt Red’s game, half of all console players can’t buy it online right now sinceCyberpunk 2077was taken off of the PS store, so this probably doesn’t skew the numbers too dramatically one way or another.
The image above shows the top ten best selling games from January 2021, and it doesn’t take long to realize thatCyberpunk 2077isn’t even on the list. This is because despite being ranked as thesecond best selling game in December 2020 behindCall of Duty Black Ops: Cold War, it ranked at number 18 this month. To be fair, that still isn’t terrible by any means, and sees it beating out other popular games. Still, this isn’t a great look considering that January 2021 is the second month the game has been out.
CD Projekt Red has already detailed plans to fixCyberpunk 2077, hopefully making it playable for those on last generation consoles. Underneath the bugs and glitches is an incredible game that those with next generation consoles or PCs have been really enjoying, so it would be a shame for that to go unnoticed.Cyberpunk 2077sales will likely continue to drop off for a while until these issues are addressed, however.
Cyberpunk 2077is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
