Summary
The developer of the upcoming team-based shooterConcord,Firewalk Studios, recently came forward to address the game’s monetization, stating that all paid content is purely cosmetic and does not impact gameplay at all. This means allConcordplayers will have access to the same core content at launch, with the option to purchase cosmetics through microtransactions.
Concordis an upcoming hero-based shooter that pits teams of five against each other as a roster of various different “freegunners” with unique abilities. The game has seencomparisons to other hero shooters likeOverwatch, but despite its apparent inclusion of microtransactions, the game is launching with a $40 price tag rather than opting for the free-to-play route.

In a recent interview withVideo Games Chronicle, Firewalk confirmed that the game will have a similar monetization structure toOverwatchas well, as it will offer skins and other cosmetic items for an extra cost to players. However,ConcordIP director Kim Kreines reassured players that the game will be feature-complete for all players at launch, directly confirming “16 characters, 12 maps, and six modes,” with more to come in the future at no extra cost.
Concord Will Have Microtransactions
Kreines also took the chance to talk about the divisive reaction to the game’s announcement, which failed to impress many fans due to an already saturated market of hero shooters that already exist. According to the director,Concordstill has a lot of content that fans have yet to see, which has reportedly been in the works for years, and the company is hopeful that it will help the game stand on its own againstcompetitors likeValorantandMarvel Rivals.
Despitecomparisons toOverwatchand evenGuardians of the Galaxywith its sci-fi aesthetic, a roster of heroes and a 5v5 team composition,Concordhas a few unique features that serve to set it apart from the competition. For instance, while characters have unique abilities, “ultimate” abilities seemingly do not exist at all, and players are able to construct buildings and structures that can be used for cover or traversal, somewhat similar to the building mechanics inFortnite.
Additionally, character switching is a little different as well, as players will be able to carry over the class bonus of their previous character before respawning, making for a variety of possible builds and movesets to play around with. The waythe playable heroes inConcordare unlocked is also new, as instead of simply leveling up or purchasing them, players unlock new heroes by rescuing them in-game, which adds them to their roster.
