Something magical happens when Chris Hemsworth and Taika Waititi are in a room together. Sometimes that special thing is a one-in-a-million hilarious masterpiece likeThor: Ragnarok, while other times, it might be a cute selfie featuring a totally rad hat. In this case, it’s both. As anticipation for Waititi’s upcoming follow-upThor: Love and Thundercontinues to rise, the stars offer tiny tidbits of behind-the-scenes glimpses.

Hemsworth posted a picture on his Instagram featuring himself and Waititi during some downtime between their presumably busy shooting schedule. Sporting a fashionable baseball cap emblazoned with the movie’s logo, Hemsworth is decked out in his beard and long hair as Thor while flanked by Waititi in a pair of stylish dark sunglasses. Looking like a combination of the hottest rap album cover of the year and 2 wild animals discovering a camera for the first time, the pair seem to be right at home in each other’s company.

“They really squeezed the budget for the official [Thor: Love and Thunder] poster but the message is clear, plenty of love and plenty of thunder. Album drops soon…again…,” Hemsworth joked in the caption, leaning into the album cover angle. While it doesn’t exactly give audiences much new information regarding the movie itself, it just goes to further establish the sort of personal connections the stars and directors tend to forge in many of the Marvel Cinematic Universe films, particularly when Waititi is involved. It’s no wonderHemsworth wants to stay in the MCUafterThor: Love and Thunder.

Of course, the question of whether Hemsworth actually will return stems from the alreadyconfirmed plot detail of Natalie Portman’s Jane Fosterearning the right to wield the mighty hammer Mjølnir, taking the title of Lady Thor in the film. This leaves the ultimate fate of Hemsworth’s character up in the air, though the actor’s wishes to remain in the films at least suggest he’ll survive. Other details inThor: Love and Thunderinclude the return of Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Jamie Alexander as Lady Sif, and newcomers Christian Bale and Russell Crowe inrespective roles as Gorr the God Butcher and Zeus. Plus there are also rumors that some big heroes from other MCU films will make cameos as well.

Thor: Ragnarokarguably redefined what it meant to be an MCU movie. Not only is it genuinely hilarious and well-written, but it even mostly works as a standalone movie, giving just enough context for viewers to enjoy this ’80s-inspired romp. That level of quality has fans particularly excited forThor: Love and Thundersince it seems to retain much of what madeRagnaroka smash hit, particularly Waititi himself being in the director’s chair.

While the notion of Jane Foster becoming the new Thor is obviously a big deal with huge implications for the future of the Marvel universe, chances are good thatLove and Thunderwill also imitate its predecessor’s status as a good film even out of its now 13-year-spanning context. It’s no wonder thatfan expectations reportedly have been making Hemsworth nervous. There are no guarantees, of course, but go ahead and try to think of a bad Waititi film.

Thor: Love and Thunderis scheduled to be released in theaters on July 08, 2025.
