The humorous gameplay footage depicting that silly idea in action surfaced online shortly after the start of the original game’s long maintenance period, due to whichCall of Duty: Warzonewill remain unplayableuntil the end of the month.
With this week’slaunch ofCall of Duty: Warzone 2, the popularity of the original battle royale game from 2020 would have likely taken a big hit even if Infinity Ward hadn’t decided to take it offline for nearly two whole weeks. The company cited a combination of server maintenance and the need to give the development team some Thanksgiving downtime as reasons for the decision. Either way, a portion of the player base that has already migrated to the newer free-to-play battle royale experience seems to partially consist of players more prone to shenanigans than highly competitive play.

Cue this latest gameplay footage shared by Reddit user crescendummain who says they decided to role-play an Uber driver inCall of Duty: Warzone 2. The two-minute video shows a somewhat bumpy, yet ultimately successful ride fromthe city of Al Mazrahto Rohan Oil in the West. The humorous episode ends with all the passengers alive and well, and zero surprise vehicle detonations. While the jury is still out on the new game, booby-trapped vehicles were historically a much more frequent occurrence duringCall of Duty: Warzonesessions than helpful Uber drivers.
Once the first game returns from hibernation, its remaining players should have plenty of opportunities to replicate this wholesomeness for a good long while. Namely, Infinity Ward already confirmed it does not intend to replaceWarzonewithWarzone 2the way its sister companyBlizzard replacedOverwatchwithOverwatch 2. Instead, the developers plan to continue supportingWarzonein parallel with its follow-up, which was just released as part of theCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2roadmap, though it remains a standalone, free-to-play experience.
What remains to be seen is how this strategy will reflect on the original’s player base, which was already on a decline since it peaked at 127 million active users in 2021. According to Activision Blizzard’s latest earnings report,Call of Duty: Warzonestill had 98 million active players as of this September.
