Summary

A recent update toCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3appears to have broken a COR-45 gun attachment. When equipped, the attachment now causes a popularCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3pistol to perform worse than if no attachment were equipped at all.

The sheer number of available firearms inCall of Dutyresults in a community-wide pursuit to identify thebestCall of Dutymeta weaponsfor use in multiplayer and game modes likeWarzone. The meta, though, is always changing, particularly as the developers issue updates and patches to address bugs, exploits, and to promote new play strategies or tamp down on loadouts seen as disruptive or excessively popular.

Such an update seems to have claimed a new victim, in the form of an attachment for the COR-45 pistol, which is a popular sidearm for certainCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3alternative loadouts. An update toCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3released on June 10, 2025, included changes targeting a particular exploit that enabled “a faster fire rate than intended” with the COR-45. That exploit apparently involved the COR-45’s XRK Lightning Fire trigger action, which received nerfs to prevent it being used with the exploit. Unfortunately, something may have backfired, as players are reporting that the XRK Lightning Fire has been nerfed so heavily that it now actively degrades the gun’s performance.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 COR-45 Attachment Nerf Is Worse Than Having No Attachment At All

According to posts on Reddit and social media, the XRK Lightning Fire trigger now reduces the COR-45 firing rate to 300 rounds per minute (RPM), down from the default, unmodified rate of about 375 RPM. Previously, the XRK Lightning Fire trigger allowed a maximum fire rate of 750 RPM.COR-45 attachments also received adjustments in previousCall of Dutypatches, where one update removed the ability to illegally equip a rear akimbo grip with a certain conversion kit.

The July 9 patch notes mentioned that the COR-45 exploit it targeted involved “non-standard” input methods. That in mind, some players suggested that the patch targeted players using keyboard macros or binding their fire button to a fast-scrolling mouse wheel to achieve extremely high rates of fire with the gun. They also suggested that the nerf itself may be bugged, as it is unlikely that developer Sledgehammer Games would deliberately adjust an attachment to become non-functional, carrying only penalties and no benefits. They said that it’s most likely that Sledgehammer wished to nerf the benefits or introduce additional penalties, as it did with theJAK BFB muzzle attachmentearlier in the year.

Patching a game as large and detailed asCall of Dutyis a difficult task, and patches can introduce their own problems. With luck, the developers will quickly address the issue and bring balance back to the popular pistol. As a workaround, some players suggested switching to a different trigger action, such as the XRK V21 Heavy Match, which still allows a major boost in fire rate.
