Summary
The first season ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3will go live on December 6, and while it brings a host of new maps, weapons, and items to players’ load-outs, the Assassin Vest is already causing a stir within the community. Owing to the short campaign mode,Modern Warfare 3received a mixed reception from criticswhen it was released in November 2023.
With the title’s first season gearing up for launch in December, it seems expectations have been tempered owing toplayers reporting issues with theCall of Dutyskill-based matchmaking system. This has led to the developers issuing a rare statement that attempts to address the concerns directly. The SBMM system isn’t the only thing gamers are unhappy with in the upcoming Season 1.

The new Assassin Vest has already caused concern among theModern Warfare 3community. As the name suggests, the Assassin Vest includes perks that make it easy for players to camp out in hidden spots to take down their enemies. Shared by CharlieIntel over on Twitter, the tactical jacket comes with perks such as kills not displaying skulls and players being immune to UAV and enemy radar effects. The camouflage applies when gamers are motionless, so they can only be seen if another player has them in their sights. The drawback is that the vest disables Field Upgrades so gamers can’t call in assistance or use reinforcements if they are in a pinch.
After the vest’s announcement, which is coming to bothModern Warfare 3andWarzone’sSeason 1, some players are unhappy with Activision’s direction for the wearable. Fans are taking to social media, accusing the developers of rewarding players by camping out and letting the action unfold around them. Some comments have likened the Assassin Vest to the infamous Ghost perk, which had similar effects albeit only if a player was in motion. A proportion of players take the view of IvPhantomIx on Twitter who sums up the situation by saying the Vest is simply overpowered.
There does seem to be a fair amount of debate about how overpowered the Assassin Vest will be inModern Warfare 3. As the jacket is not currently available in-game, players won’t know how the equipment fares in their load-outs. The team atSledgehammer has already faced criticism aboutModern Warfare 3being rushedso will no doubt be monitoring how the Assassin Vest affects the course of each battle before deciding if changes are required.
