Summary

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’s multiplayer isn’t working properly when it comes to spawning players, and fans are loudly complaining. They reason that the upcoming ranked play mode will be hard to go through as long as theproblematic spawn issues ofModern Warfare 3persist.

Modern Warfare 3has been out for less than a couple of months, and while the entry logged its usual strong sales thanks to a devotedCall of Dutyfanbase, the overall reactions haven’t really been enthusiastic. The game has been plagued by controversies involving bugs and developer Sledgehammer Games' certain approaches to its design and play experience, but it still sees a steady player base active on its servers.

Over on theModern Warfare 3subreddit, player random-stud made a complaint about how the game spawns people in the Hardpoint multiplayer mode. Through a number of play sessions, they observed that the game would spawn teams right in front of each other on all the maps, presumably leading to instant teamfights and frustrating experiences. Random-stud also took the developers to task by calling out how this wasn’t addressed inModern Warfare 3’s recent season patches—in fact, they noted that Hardpoint had been this way since launch, while the spawn system in the Domination mode was functioning properly before the update. Unfortunately, this has also been a big problemthat carried over from previousModern Warfaregames.

Many other players agreed in the comments, with some theorizing that this may have been an intentional game design decision by the devs, as the Sledgehammer team hadn’t addressed it at all in any of the patches or their communications since launch. However, the team did addressthese issues right afterModern Warfare 3releasedby pulling out some of the Hardpoint maps, but with players still experiencing them, it seems that that wasn’t enough.

The fans' concerns about the game’s other aspects have not abated. In addition to this, another recent controversy has involved a recentskin bundle that arrived inModern Warfare 3on December 28. The premium bundle, which costs $24, includes skins that players have called out as palette swaps of previous releases, leading them to also complain about what they feel were more lazy cash grabs on Sledgehammer’s and publisher Activision’s end. While this isn’t a particularly new phenomenon in games with microtransactions, incidents like that and the spawn glitches still make a dent in a company’s reputation, which can accrue and ultimately lead to disaster.
