Though it was only announced a month ago,Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2has been one of the most hyped games of the last year or so, with countless rumors and leaks springing up for a while now. From returning characters to the game’s plot toa brand-new multiplayer DMZ mode, just about every aspect ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2has been leaked already, and now the list even includes the start date of the game’s beta.
In the closing moments ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s first trailer, released a few weeks ago, a title card flashed on the screen, displaying the game’s release date of June 13, 2025, and revealing that players who pre-order the game will get early access to its open beta. This is nothing new to theCall of Dutyfranchise, with the last few entries likeVanguardandBlack Ops: Cold Warboth offering a few days of exclusive access to the beta for those who had pre-ordered. But thanks to a new leak, the date ofModern Warfare 2’s beta may have been revealed, and it’s earlier than some might think.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s Beta Date Leaked
A few days ago, an Amazon US listing for the Xbox Series X version ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2was uploaded to the storefront. The description of the listing detailed that those who pre-orderModern Warfare 2before August 15 will be given access to the game’s open beta. The real kicker was the next section, which specified that beta codes would be sent out by August 15, suggesting thatModern Warfare 2’s beta will begin on August 15.
The Amazon listing was promptly taken down, but with this being the internet, screenshots of the listing can still be found pretty easily. Despite this being pretty big news,Activision and Infinity Wardhave maintained radio silence on the matter, which doesn’t necessarily lend credence to either side of the speculation.
That being said, August 15 is quite early for aCall of Dutybeta. In the past, mostCall of Dutybetashave occurred just a few weeks before the game’s release, withCold War’s occurring in October, andVanguard’s dropping at the end of September. While the main purpose for a beta is to smooth-out any kinks in the game’s online functionality and to test server stress,Call of Duty’s recent betas have seemed more like marketing ploys, intended more as demos for those still on the fence about buying.
With the last twoCall of Dutyreleases, this may have burned Activision a little, asVanguardandCold War’s betas were not received all that wellby a portion of the fans, likely putting off a few from buying the game at full price on launch day. However, 2019’sCall of Duty: Modern Warfare’s alphas and betas did the exact opposite, showing fans just how much of a departure the entry was from its predecessors and building hype for its upcoming release.
It’s more than possible that Infinity Ward and Activision want to try and recapture that same magic forModern Warfare’s sequel, and that’s why its beta could be coming out a little earlier than some might have expected. Alternatively, it could be the case that Infinity Ward simply wants the game to be as smooth as possible for its final October release date, and beginning a beta period early is the best way to do that. Regardless, whenCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s beta does finally come out, PlayStation users will have five days of early access before Xbox and PC players, butwith Microsoft acquiring Activision, this could be the last year that PlayStation is favored.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2launches on October 28 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
