Summary

Larian Studios has recently unveiled the 20 most popular multiclass combinations inBaldur’s Gate 3, and the Rogue/Ranger sits right at the top. It’s no secret thatsome builds inBaldur’s Gate 3are better than others, and the numbers show that players definitely have their preferences.

Baldur’s Gate 3is one of the biggest hits of 2023 so far. Part of why the game was successful was due to translating the experience of tabletop RPGs to video games so well, from the rules to the most chaotic aspects of the game. A specific part of theDungeons and Dragonsexperience that caters to many players is multiclassing, andBG3offers comprehensive multiclassing options, allowing players to combine any two classes.

According to Larian’s recently released report on the top 20 multiclass combinations that gamers pick inBaldur’s Gate 3, the Rogue/Ranger is the most popular, with over 175,000 players using it. It’s closely followed by the Barbarian/Fighter multiclass build, which was used by more than 158,000 gamers. All of the other options are far behind, with only Barbarian/Paladin and Cleric/Paladin achieving over 100,000 players. The Paladin is pretty popular in multiclassing, probably due to its powerful Smite ability, and it’s a part of 8 of the 20 most popular combinations.

Overall, these choices are not very surprising. Rangers and Rogues are a good match due to being stealthy character types that play well with a bow or dual wielding, and Barbarians and Fighters could easily get some synergy in a Strength-based build. Paladins being popular is even less surprising, considering that when Larian revealedthe most popular classes and races inBG3, they sat right at the top, followed by Sorcerers and Warlocks. Perhaps, the only surprise is that the famous Sorcerer/Paladin, one of the most popular builds in the tabletop version ofD&D, was not higher in the rankings, as it was only used by 64,854 gamers.

It’s possible that upcoming updates will allowBaldur’s Gate 3players to have even more choices, be it by adding more subclasses or perhaps a whole new class, asBG3does not have the official Artificer class, for instance. Until that happens, though, players still got plenty of updates withBaldur’s Gate 3’s Patch 3, which squashed countless bugs and added a Magic Mirror to the game. With the new Magic Mirror, players can change the appearance, voices, and pronouns of their characters at any moment.

Baldur’s Gate 3is available now for PC and PS5. An Xbox Series X/S version are in development.
