One of the biggest Japanese video game developers of the past decade is Platinum Games. While the team has been far from quiet, announcing titles such asThe Wonderful 101 RemasteredandProject G.G., many fans have been waiting with baited breath for updates from their titles already in development,Babylon’s FallandBayonetta 3. WhileBayonetta 3was announced during The Game Awards in 2017 and has not had any sort of major update since,Babylon’s Fallwas announced during Square Enix’s E3 2018 digital event, and gameplay was first revealed at Sony’s December 2019 State of Play.
As another collaboration between Platinum Games and Square Enix, it’s no surprise that the title looks like a progression of the action gameplayintroduced inNieR: Automata. The gameplay showcased last year featured a male protagonist pulling off stylish combos, a mainstay for Platinum’s titles, while also wielding multiple swords at once, looking somewhat akin toFinal Fantasy 15’s combat. The game even seems to feature some sort of mechanic similar toBayonetta’s “Witch Time.”

While fans looking forward to hearing some sort of update on the game’s development in the near future, asthe most recentBabylon’s Falltrailerended with a message reading “More Information Next Summer.” However, the team has announced it is not yet ready to showcase new information for the upcoming action title. The official Twitter account shared a message stating that while development is going well, the staff is working from home and it is not ready to showcase any new gameplay right now.
Square Enix recently confirmed that it hadintentions of showcasing multiple titlesat this year’s E3 expo, however, when the expo was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it canceled its plans. The publisher also announced that it would not be hosting a digital event of its own, instead choosing to announce titles individually, such asshowcasingProject Athiaat Sony’s Future of Gaming event. This likely threw plans forBabylon’s Fallinto trouble, even despite the fact that the publisher recently claimed that it has plans to announce multiple titles this July and August.
While that means that Square Enix may make an appearance at Microsoft’s upcoming Xbox Series X game showcase, it is unlikely thatBabylon’s Fallwill appear in any capacity, especially given that the only platforms it has been confirmed for so far are PlayStation 4 and PC.
Babylon’s Fallis planned to be released on PC and PlayStation 4.
