Since its release in 2019, it seems that Respawn Entertainment’sApex Legendshas continued to become increasingly more popular. The battle royale has seen a steady release of new content and is still seemingly considered to be one of the most played games in the genre (a feat considering the wide appeal of Epic Games’Fortnite). However, despite the team at Respawn constantlyupdating the game regularly with balance patchesand new characters, it seems to be suffering from an issue with one particular character class.
InApex Legends, characters are split amongst 4 different character classes: Assault, Support, Recon, and Tank. While the legend chosen by the player isn’t affected necessarily by what weapons they can use, their role within a team fight is affected primarily through their abilities. Assault characters, such as Revenant and Wraith, are designed with talents that will help a squad to go on the offensive, while Recon characters likeBloodhound and Cryptoassist with tracking down enemies. And while many new legends have been added to the roster for players to enjoy, the Support class seems to have been left in the dust a bit.

Since launch, seven characters have been added to the legend line-up inApex Legends. While every class has seen at least one new inclusion during this time, the Support class has had only one: the High Society Thief, Loba. Some players may not see this as that big of a deal since the Recon class has only had one new character as well, but that’s not quite the case.Pathfinder began as a Supportcharacter alongside Lifeline, but he was later moved to the Recon class with Bloodhound causing the game to have only one Support until Loba arrived.
WhileLoba’s abilities lend themselves well to the Support roleby helping players find loot easier, Lifeline remains the only character inApex Legendsthat can heal teammates. A Support character doesn’t necessarily need to be capable of healing their allies as they can assist in a variety of ways. However, Loba’s toolset seems aimed at a more passive idea of supporting a squad, telling players where they can find loot and getting that loot quicker. At this time, Lifeline seems to feel like the only Support that is directly affecting their team with the abilities available.
It remains unclear as to when players can expect a new legend to fill this role as well. Near the end of September, a leak seemed to showseveral new characters coming toApex Legends, along with their respective classes. Of the seven characters that appeared to be leaked at that time (including Season 7 Legend, Horizon), five of them are Assault characters and two are Recon. While the veracity of this leak has yet to be validated, this doesn’t seem to bode well for players who enjoy supporting their teammates. Hopefully after some playtesting and tweaking, some of these characters will launch as Supports, correcting the roster’s deficit.
