With people directed to stay home due to a global pandemic, Nintendo’sAnimal Crossing: New Horizonscould not have come at a better time. The life simulation game has proven to be a massively popular game for the Nintendo Switch as fans get to flex their creativity and art skills in new ways such as designing clothing or eventurning the game into a horror story. The game, however, isn’t perfect due to a couple glitches, which Nintendo is currently working to correct.

The latest patch has finally arrived toAnimal Crossing: New Horizonscalled Version 1.1.1. Unlike previous updates, this one targeted a single bug that had a major impact on game balance. An found exploit allowed players to essentially duplicate items, which could be used to generate a lot of Bells very quickly. While patch notes weren’t immediately provided, dataminers have seemingly confirmed that exploit had been fixed.

Previous to this hotfix, players coulduse the item duplication bugto make as many copies of an item as they wanted. Essentially, two players would need to be together with one person putting down an object that can have other things put on top of it such as a table or box. A second item is placed on top of that item while the player then holds onto and rotates the table or box item. The second player then picks up the item on top, which then causes it to appear in the inventory and remain on top of the table or box.

Naturally, this bug has basically thrown game balance and pacing out of the window. TheAnimal Crossingseries has always been a slower paced style game where players are encouraged to take their time to build their town, or island in this case, slowly over time. Performing the glitch with high priced itemsmakes both players rich very quickly, perhaps faster than the game developers intended. In turn, players can rapidly pay back Tom Nook, gain access to items and buildings sooner than expected. On some level, this changes how the game is played and the potential satisfaction from putting hours into the experience.

With one major bug down, another exploit still remains.Time traveling is a hotly disputed exploitand one which Nintendo may not be able to overcome.Animal Crossing: New Horizonsuses the Switch’s calendar and clock to sync up in real time, which means players can manipulate those things to change the game by pushing the timeline forward to speed up certain aspects. Since some activities are time gated, fans can edit their system clock to speed things along, though keep in mind that pushing things too far could have a negative impact on the island itself.

Animal Crossing: New Horizonsis available now, exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
