ForAnimal Crossing: New Horizons' first anniversary, players will be able to purchase a number of Sanrio villager amiibo cards that bring a ton of new content to the game. However, they must be purchased at Target and seemingly won’t be sold anywhere else.
The previously announced Sanrio Collaboration Pack will be available on March 26, bringing a number of Sanrio-inspired villagers to players' islands. The Collaboration Pack will also bring a slew ofnew furniture items toAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsthemed after the respective villagers, such as Cinnamoroll and Hello Kitty. The Sanrio set was highly requested from veterans toNew Leaf, where it originally appeared also via the amiibo cards. These cards were previously functional withNew Horizonsas well, but they only brought some posters to the game rather than the exciting new furniture sets and matching villagers.

But according to the official Nintendo website, the Sanrio Collaboration Pack will seemingly only be available via Target and won’t be distributed through otherstorefront retailers such as GameStopor Best Buy. Why Nintendo has chosen to do the collaboration solely with Target is unclear, but it will likely result in hoards of players flocking to Target stores to get their hands on the amiibo cards. Players should expect them to sell out quickly, and the popular amiibo cards are likely to attract scalpers as well.
TheAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsamiibo cards will be $5.99 each, which some consider to be affordable. However, it’s likely that certain Sanrio villagers will sell out faster than others as players attempt to bring them to their islands. For example, Chai, inspired by Cinnomoroll, and Marty, inspired by Pompompurin, seem to be more popular than Toby and Rilla.
Of course, that price will likely be much higher if purchasing from scalpers. Nintendo sells other amiibo cards via Target’s online store as well, meaning thatscalpers could use their bots to interveneand resell them at a higher price, especially for more widely coveted villagers coming via the Sanrio Collaboration Pack. This also begs the question whether or not players will be able to trade the Sanrio villagers and furniture to others who haven’t purchased the amiibos. If so, this will also likely result in players spending more than $5.99.
Though theSanrio amiibo cardsshow the villagers arriving on an RV like they did inAnimal Crossing: New Leaf, it doesn’t look like campers will be brought toNew Horizonsat this time. Rather, the Sanrio villagers will show up at the campsite and players can invite them to move into an empty plot like any normal villager.
