IfMortal Kombat 1gets some post-story DLC chapters, they shouldn’t focus on what the teaser after the credits is setting up. While that would seem like the next logical step to take, there’s actually a good reason forMortal Kombat 1to not touch that particular topic again yet. Instead, there is another plotline that is set up perfectly for the game to tackle in a DLC storyline. The main story already set up a lot of interesting new dynamics to launch off of. Following the right plot, Story DLC could be a great extension of those dynamics.
In thenew timeline ofMortal Kombat 1, there are a lot of key differences that make the universe far different from the one that came before. Many longtime villains such as Mileena and Baraka are now heroes, several characters come from completely different circumstances, and huge swaths of history are rewritten. The result was a game that acted as an effective reboot, keeping its cast recognizable while finding a completely new set of things to do with them. By the end of the game, the story has wrapped up in a satisfying fashion, but there is still an obvious lead-in for a sequel.

Mortal Kombat 1’s Post-Credits Scene Sets Up Titan Havik’s Schemes
In a post-credits scene afterbeatingMortal Kombat 1’s story, Titan Havik is seen with a group of other alternate characters, overlooking the aftermath of the story’s climactic battle. After executing a wounded incarnation of Jax, Havik and his subordinates reveal their shared love of chaos and brutality, having clearly enjoyed themselves during the battle. Titan Havik declares his desire to see such a battle again, so that he can relish in even more bloodshed. This sets him up as the next major villain for the heroes to face off with, giving him as much legitimacy as Shang Tsung had inMK1.
Titan Havik Should be Saved for Mortal Kombat 2
It’s an excellent setup, but one best left for thenextMortal Kombatgame’s storyto tackle. Simply put, the kind of multiversal war that Titan Havik is promising can’t be done justice with a simple DLC. WhileMortal Kombat 1’s Invasions mode is doing something similar with its seasons, Titan Havik’s plot needs its own game to be fully explored. Between the new character combos that makes up the alternates, as well as the scale of Titan Havik’s plans, there is a lot of ground to cover with this plot. A story DLC probably couldn’t give it the time that it deserves.
Sub-Zero’s Lin Kuei Could Drive a DLC Storyline
There is one strong thread for a DLC storyline inMortal Kombat 1, though.Mortal Kombat 1’s version of Sub-Zerobreaks tradition by becoming a villain, and corrupting the Lin Kuei in his wake. This new villainous Lin Kuei would make perfect villains to fight in a shorter campaign. While Sub-Zero’s fall is something that will be extremely important going forward, he’s also in a prime position to fill the role of central antagonist in a storyline DLC. Fighting against an operation by the Lin Kuei could be a good post-game plot to follow up Shang Tsung’s machinations from the main story.
A Lin Kuei storyline could also provide relevance to Frost, a Kameo fighter who is currently disconnected from the plot.
There’s still room forMortal Kombat 1to tell more stories before the next game.Mortal Kombat 1getting story DLCisn’t strictly necessary, but it could be useful for laying out more lore ahead of the next game. However, when it comes to Titan Havik, he and his plots are better left in the future. He may be terrifying, but he needs more time than a DLC alone would be able to give him. Instead, the Lin Kuei would be a valid option forMortal Kombat 1story DLC.
